Project Goal: Unlocking Bulgaria’s potential as a premium seed potato production hub

In 2023, Mostagro V.O.F. initiated a certified seed potato production and multiplication project in Bulgaria to evaluate the country’s potential for high-quality seed potato cultivation. The project began as a pilot study, aiming to determine whether Bulgaria's climate and soil conditions are suitable for producing certified seed potatoes that meet European Union standards. The results have demonstrated strong potential, confirming that Bulgaria can serve as a reliable production region for seed potato multiplication.
The first year focused on the cultivation and certification of Stemster seed potatoes, in collaboration with KaiAgro EOOD, Jan-Eric Geersing, and the BFSA (Bulgarian Food Safety Agency). The successful production and certification of these seed potatoes led to their export to France, Hungary, and Romania, ensuring that the produced seeds met strict quality requirements for the European market.

EXPANSION & GROWTH

Following the success of our first season, we expanded to high-class seed categories PB3 and PB4, including new varieties like Diamant, Cammeo, and Kenebec.

This development has strengthened Bulgaria’s role as an emerging seed potato production hub in Europe.
The continued success of this project highlights Bulgaria’s potential to contribute to the European seed potato supply chain, supporting both local agriculture and international markets. With a commitment to strict certification processes, quality control, and sustainable agricultural practices, Mostagro V.O.F. aims to further expand production and enhance Bulgaria’s standing as a strategic location for seed potato multiplication.
