How it all started
2007
Maria Marinova founded MOSTAGRO BV, driven by her entrepreneurial spirit and confidence in tackling new challenges. Supported by partners who shared her vision, Maria bridged the gap between Eastern and Western markets. This approach transformed opportunities into a growing success story.
MOSTAGRO BV was established to specialize in the export and trade of fresh fruits and vegetables, focusing on markets in Russia, CIS countries, and Eastern Europe. Maria used her cultural knowledge and industry experience, gained from working at one of the Netherlands' leading food trading companies, to create new business opportunities and meet the specific demands of these regions.
Growth and Partnerships
2016
Expansion: In 2016, Ruud Kosters joined Mostagro, bringing valuable expertise in the fruits and vegetables sector, along with a passion for seed potatoes from his time at HZPC, a leader in potato breeding.
New Identity: Maria and Ruud rebranded the company as Mostagro V.O.F., marking the beginning of a new phase focused on growth, innovation, and expanding operations.
Expertise: Maria brought extensive international agri-food experience, while Ruud’s expertise in potato production and breeding guided Mostagro’s growth.
Product Expansion & Collaborations
2018
Market Shift: As the market for exporting fresh fruits and vegetables to Russia evolved, Mostagro focused on building long-term relationships with local and international agricultural businesses. One major achievement was the shift to exporting seed potatoes and later expanding into local production of certified seed production. Initially starting in Georgia, the production expanded to Bulgaria, Maria’s home country. This move ensured the production of high-quality seeds that met international standards.
Supporting Farmers: Beyond seed production, Mostagro also supports farmers in finding the best farming practices in the crop production, but also assisting in developing new market for other crops such as oilseeds, corn, grains, and pulses, in order to support the crop rotation and implement best farming practices.
